What Is CBD?
What is CBD? This is the most important question you can ask us. CBD products are a subject that could divide a room: you either love it or hate it. You're dedicated to it or are suspicious of what it is. This has been created through a culture of mistrust of the Cannabis plant. It is most often referred to as a recreational illicit drug. Despite it being legalized in some parts Europe and the States, it is still a hot topic. Specifically in the UK where it is currently being debated in parliament.
Unfortunately, surrounding CBD and the THC part of the plant is a labyrinth of myths, mistruths and outlandish assumptions. Let us help you understand where CBD products come from and what it does. What is CBD? We have the answer:
CBD is a key Ingredient in Cannabis and Hemp!
CBD is one of over 113 compounds found in cannabis that belong to a class of molecules called cannabinoids. Of these compounds, CBD and THC are usually present in the highest concentrations and are therefore the most recognized and studied. CBD and THC levels tend to vary among different species. Cannabis grown for recreational purposes often contains more THC than CBD. However, by using selective breeding techniques, cannabis breeders have managed to create varieties with high levels of CBD and next to zero levels of THC. These strains are rare but have become more popular in recent years.
Is CBD is psychoactive?
CBD is non-psychoactive. Unlike THC, CBD does not cause a high. While this makes CBD a poor choice for recreational users, it gives the chemical a significant advantage as a human supplement, since health professionals prefer treatments with minimal side effects. CBD is non- psychoactive because it does not act on the same neurotransmission pathways as THC. These pathways, called CB1 receptors, are highly concentrated in the brain and are responsible for the mind-altering effects of THC. A 2011 review published in Current Drug Safety concludes that CBD “does not interfere with several psychomotor and psychological functions.” The authors add that several studies suggest that CBD is “well tolerated and safe” even at high doses.

The Endo-Cannabinoid System is named after the plant that led to its discovery! It is one of the most important physiological systems involved in establishing and maintain a healthy human existence. The Endo-Cannabinoid system enables homeostasis: the maintenance of a stable internal environment despite fluctuations in the external world around us. The Cannabinoids promote homeostasis at every level of biological life. The Endo-Cannabinoid System and its effects go a long way in explaining What CBD is and how it can improve your health.
We have gone into extensive detail on the Endo-Cannabinoid system and have included a fantastic video breaking everything down! It is essential to your understanding if you're still asking: What is CBD? Have a look here!
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some other frequently asked questions we may be able to help you answer- If you have any more we have not listed, Please get in touch!
What is CBD?
A phytocannabinoid (Plant) derived from Cannabis species, which effects are devoid of psychoactive activity. One of over 113 known active cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant and the target of much research due to its potential health benefits in the last half century to present day. Chemical Structure: 1,3-benzenediol, 2-(3-methyl-6-(1-methylethenyl)-2-cyclohexen-1-yl)-5-pentyl-, (1R-trans)-
Will it get me high?
Actually, this is a common misunderstanding for people who have stigmatic views toward Cannabinoids in general. Beliefs that CBD will render the same effects as its more widely known counterpart THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) are understandably misguided due to the tumultuous history of Cannabis in modern history especially after its wide medicinal and ritual use in Ancient origins (1). However, furthered accuracy in scientific research and public availability of information in the last two decades has seen a shift in attitude and indeed renewed attention to the benefits effective Cannabinoid supplementation can induce.
Is it Legal?
The main risks is where the CBD imported contains tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), or where it is not considered a medicinal product and therefore may fall within the remit of the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 (‘the 2016 Act’).
Traces of THC in a CBD product
There has been some discussion in reports on this subject that the EU permits CBD containing 0.2% of THC or less. However, after a review of the appropriate regulations (Article 52 of Regulation (EC) No 1782/2003) they appear to be concerned with the cultivation of hemp rather than products produced from the hemp. For this reason, they are unlikely to be applicable to CBD infused hemp oil. Therefore we can assume that the law is in severe need of reform.
New MHRA regulatory guidelines are on the immediate horizon and we shall remain vigilant in our efforts to effect due diligence in the offering of our products.
