CBD for Women

Updated: Mar 4, 2023

Over time, women may experience a wide range of distinct physical health ailments and concerns. Although many of them, such as PMS, hormonal imbalances, pregnancy, and menopause, can be difficult and uncomfortable, the majority of them are unavoidable components of the female life cycle.

As our understanding of the amazing CBD oil has progressed, we can see an exciting pattern in its therapeutic potential; CBD appears to help in several women’s health conditions.

Could CBD be your new best friend?

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of many active ingredients found in the Cannabis plant; however, unlike its counterpart tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is responsible for the ‘high’ feeling, CBD, is non-psychoactive, it does not change a person’s state of mind when they use it. However, it may produce significant changes in the body, and it is showing many significant health benefits.

How does CBD work?

It interacts with our endocannabinoid system (ECS), The ECS helps to regulate our immunity, energy, mood, memory, pain perception, and much more. It hosts a wide range of functions, ensuring that our mind and body, work in perfect harmony. CBD interacts with receptors throughout the body and has shown to have a therapeutic effect across a wide variety of health conditions. Here, we outline just a few of the ways in which CBD may help to support the mental and physical wellbeing of women all over the world.

Potential Benefits of CBD for Women:

Hormonal Imbalance

CBD may have the ability to provide relief for women suffering from hormonal imbalances. One study investigating the effect of CBD found that it helped regulate the secretion of the stress-activating hormone, cortisol. High levels of cortisol can impact other hormone levels including thyroid-stimulating hormones and sex hormones. Any cortisol-reducing activities can therefore help to support overall hormone balance. In addition, when choosing hemp-based CBD products, you get a boost of omega fatty acids and gamma-linolenic acid, both of which can contribute to hormone health.

Menopause

Menopause is a major hormonal event; estrogen and progesterone levels drop, causing uncomfortable symptoms that many women suffer with in silence. There are cannabinoid receptors throughout the female reproductive system too, and menopause can cause disruption in the endocannabinoid system. This can explain some of the unpleasant side effects of premenopause such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, mood swings, low libido, and hot flushes. It has been suggested that CBD may help to reduce symptoms of menopause, with a recent small-scale study finding CBD could help to relieve chronic pain, lower inflammation and improve sleep – all concerns that can occur during menopause.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition that disproportionately affects women; 1 in 3 women over 50 will experience osteoporosis, in comparison to 1 in 5 men. Osteoporosis is characterized by a weakening of the bones, making them more susceptible to fractures and breaks. Oestrogen plays an important role in bone density. As women experience a drop in oestrogen levels during menopause, they become more vulnerable to osteoporosis.

CBD has been shown to increase osteoclast number and accelerate bone fracture healing in preclinical research and animal models, respectively. Osteoclasts are cells involved in the growth and healing of bones, so CBD may help to sustain bone density in older women.

Pain Relief

Women have to face all sorts of pains throughout their life, from PMS to childbirth, with studies showing that CBD may help to decrease pain by interacting with the endocannabinoid system to reduce inflammation and interact with neurotransmitters.

Women suffering from chronic pain such as headaches, cramps, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and more, have shown improvement in their pain levels by using CBD. We receive amazing feedback from our Bio CBD Oil regarding pain relief.

Autoimmune diseases

Our immune system works hard to keep us safe by attacking foreign cells. In some circumstances, the body misidentifies its own cells as dangerous and begins to attack itself. This is known as an autoimmune disease. Common and autoimmune conditions include type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis (MS) - All of these conditions are twice as frequent in women. Much of our immunological signaling is controlled by our Endocannabinoid System, which can be modulated by CBD's anti-inflammatory effects. As a result, CBD may decrease immune activity.

CBD has been shown to be immunosuppressive in autoimmune models of MS. It also prevented disease-onset in a female animal model of diabetes. This is all early evidence, but these findings show promise for the use of CBD in the future treatment of autoimmune disease.

Anxiety and Depression

Studies have indicated that CBD shows promising results in reducing stress and anxiety levels. CBD oil is often used by alternative medicine practitioners for patients with OCD and social anxiety. Since CBD activates receptors in the brain that produce elevated levels of dopamine, it may be effective for relaxing the mind and body, potentially reducing anxiety levels. Beauty

One of the biggest beauty trends recently has been the rise of CBD skincare. It is believed that incorporating CBD into your skincare may provide benefits such as strengthening hair follicles, improving the look and health of skin, and minimizing the appearance of dark spots and wrinkles. Studies have also indicated that CBD may help to prevent acne by regulating oil production and lowering inflammation, with the use of topical CBD also being used for skin rashes, eczema, and psoriasis. Gut Health

Studies have shown that almost 72% of women have suffered from digestive problems, such as IBS within the past year.
